High school students received a “Reality Check” last week during our first Reality Fair hosted by Tri County Credit Union. 9th-10th grade students received information on credit cards, checkbooks, savings accounts, student loans, etc. Students asked great questions as they started to learn about the adult world of finances.
Juniors and Seniors played the game of Life. When they entered the chapel, they became 24 years of age and had to determine if they had a trade degree, bachelor’s, master’s degree or just a high school diploma. This correlated to the student loan amount and their salary. Next they were asked if they lived with parents, owned a house, rented, bought a new or used car, had a pet, health and car insurance coverage. Once all of that was determined, they had to figure out how much of their salary was left for clothing, groceries, entertainment, and savings. Mrs. Pritt recommended watching Borrowed Future on Amazon and Money, Explained on Netflix to learn more.
